A Week of Firsts

by Elizabeth79 // 0 comments // tagged with: Nolan

Wow! Nolan is changing so fast this week! He has finally started rolling over from his stomach to back and his back to stomach. Jesse got him to do this by motivating him to get the kleenex box! He has been eating rice and oatmeal cereal for about a month now and I've added in a number of purees. Unlike his sister, who ate everything we gave her, Nolan likes the veggies a bit more (zucchini and squash) than fruits. This week, he tried the Gerber puffs and devoured those. He also loved eating non-pureed banana and pears. For the banana, I cut off a piece and left the peel on most of it for a handle. I just peeled and sliced a very ripe pear for him. It was really fun to see him eating food like that. Think I'll have to try more food that way instead of pureed. Maybe he just really likes to feed himself! Nolan's other new tricks are with his hands and toys. He loves to practice swinging his arm and hand up and down...watch out if there is a toy in his hand! If he's in his high chair, he'll band a toy on the tray. Nolan is also starting to bring his hands together to bang them or toys. He is such a big boy! Just wait til he starts crawling!!

That's My Yucky Face!!

A story about the has strong taste preferences milestone, recorded Aug 18, 2009

Nolan is loving his rice cereal and oatmeal....fruit and veggies on the other hand, not so much! His first taste of food was zucchini. He did make a yucky face, but ate just about all of it. Since then, he's tried applesauce, pears, sweet potatoes, and bananas. He doesn't like any of them! He won't even open his mouth after the first bit! This is so different than Jenna when she started eating food. Oh well! We'll just keep trying. I did make baby food for him today. I made squash, zucchini, and green beans. That filled up all my ice cube trays, so I'll have to make more when I have some time!

Folding laundry and decided to put Nolan in my empty basket. Just love how he is holding on to the side (He does this in his carseat too!). It kept him busy for a few extra minutes!

Jenna was in heaven playing in the water and bubbles. We'll have to try and create our own little bubble tub someday!

Nolan discovered that he can put his toes in his mouth AND suck on them! How great since putting things in his mouth is one of his favorite things to do!

Jenna put my shoes on and told me she was going to work. I asked her where she worked and she said, "I work in St. Paul!"

I was doing laundry so put Nolan in the basket while I filled/emptied the washer and dryer. He just sat there talking to me! It was so cute I had to take a picture :)

Jenna got a set of measuring cups and spoons for the sandbox....but before they go down there, she decided to 'feed' Nolan! She did an awesome job with her pretend baby cereal, but he wasn't too happy that he was eating invisible food! Haha!!

Nolan discovered his feet a while ago and just this afternoon, figured out how to get them in his mouth! Jenna didn't really do this as a baby, so it was really fun to watch him. It's amazing how flexible babies are! Maybe with both of his feet up by his mouth he'll roll over!

A story about the identifies some letters and sounds milestone, recorded Jul 19, 2009

Jenna is a smart little girl. She has always been drawn to letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. She can label most letters of the alphabet as well as point to them when named. Jenna loves to read books and does really well with paperback books. We recently found almost all the books by Laura Numeroff at the library (If You Give A Mouse A Cookie....and so on). I love reading those books to her because at the end, she always remembers the last line and says it for you!!

Ohhh Nolan!! He still loves to eat, but pops on and off at every little noise. If he hears something, he has to turn and look to see what's going on! If his feet are touching anything, he is constantly kicking and pushing with them! Nolan has always liked to hold on to my shirt while he eats and has started to play with my hair...too cute. On the days that I work, as soon as he sees me he starts whining. It's usually not enough that I just hold him. Even if he just ate, he HAS to have a little fresh milk :)

My first taste of cereal!

We decided to try rice cereal for the first time today! Nolan loves watching us eat, so we thought he could have a turn! His first taste was cute...he made a little face, but really liked it. As soon as I'd have the next spoonful ready, he'd pull my hand towards his mouth. He whined if I wasn't fast enough for him! We'll see if he packs on some pounds now!! Jenna even gave him a couple spoonfuls! I think he'll be a great eater just like his big sister :).
